Why did they support XIMB at SCMHRD?

There are times when it's better to keep matters open for speculation. After all it's a matter involving XIMB.

The story is now 2 days old that I and Swarup had gone for the Business Quiz at SCMHRD, Pune. Again it's old wine that we stood 2nd and gulped some 15k. But only I and Swarup know how close it was at the end.

The winner had already been decided till the final question. The fight was now for the 2nd position (no prizes for 3rd position). Our team was at 54 and the SIBM team was at 45.

It was a buzzer round. That means whoever presses the buzzer first gets to answer the question. A correct answer would have fetched 20 marks, while a wrong answer would have deducted 10 marks.

That meant SIBM would have anyhow pressed the buzzer and would have had a go at the question -- whether they know it or not. We were also ready to ring the buzzer if we knew the answer.

So the quiz master asked the final question. And within one second, the buzzer of SIBM started ringing. I and Swarup were not very sure of the answer, so we played safe.

Our hearts were thumping...

To cool the atmosphere, the quiz master, Gautam Ghosh said, "The situation is really tense! If SIBM says it correctly, then SIBM wins. So XIMBians must pray. Well, by the way let's see whom does the audience support?"

"How many hands for SIBM?"

Only two-three hands went up. Gautam Ghosh smiled.

"And how many for XIMB?"

Wow!!! There were a large number of hands! It seemed as if almost 60-70% of the audience was supporting us.

Gautam Ghosh poked some fun at us, "Hey! people of Pune are not supporting a team from Pune. That's odd! By the way, XIMB boys cheer up!!! A lot of female support for you guys"

That was surprising and amusing :-)

Finally what happened is that SIBM guys could not answer the question and we won the 2nd prize.

To sum it up, the support we got at a place 2000 kms away from Bhubaneswar was surprising and this made our win more enjoyable. Thank you Pune and SCMHRD.

Nice story, accidentally stumbled upon this page when I was looking for a comparison of which is the better college, XIMB or SCMHRD. I'm an SCMHRD Alum, so can say with guarantee, had there been any another team against SIBM, we'd probably have supported them as well. Old rivalry coming along for years with SIBM! :)
